Engraving by Harmen Jansz Von Muller (1540-1617) after Maarten van Heemskerck's painting.

Scene is showing retrospectively Biblical events from Moses' life - in the background in top right corner Moses is on the top of Mount Sinai where he was given the Ten Commandments by God depicted here with his Hebrew name of יהוה.
God is also captured in two more places: as a sun on the sky and in the top part of the tent, which all together represents the Holy Trinity.

In the foreground Moses and his wife is joined by Miriam and Aaron.

This engraving most likely comes from a book containing 8 different works.

On the stone below Moses' feet there is engraved Latin quote from Gospel of Matthew 5-5: 'BEATI MITES QUONIAM IPSI POSSIDEBUNT TERRAM' - 'Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth' - one of the eight beatitudes given by Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount - as described in The Gospel of Mathew, which is the first book in New Testament.

Circa 19th C it was coloured and gilded with gold, therefore the Latin quotation is covered by pain but still visible when lit from the back as seen on the picture.

There is also a monogram in right bottom corner - in a form of letter 'Z'.

Age: circa 1566.
Size: 195x248mm = 7.6 x 9.7in
Condition: very good for around 450 years old engraving, just as seen on pictures.

Comes unframed as seen.

Very rare example with extremely well executed later decorations.
