Decorated with gilded lions' heads. griffin' paws, ornamental lines and central ornament .

Bronze figure of Virgil made by famous French artist Antoine Pierre Aubert (1853-1912) - signature moulded on the edge of bench.

Virgil was a Roman poet depicted in Dante Alighieri's 'Divine Comedy' - Virgil guided Dante through Purgatory and Inferno, however as a pagan himself, Virgil was not allowed to enter Paradise. In Dante's poem Virgil represents reason and wisdom.

Conditions: some surfaces require polishing and buffing, there is one spot with chipped edge, and another that was glued back; clock's spring is broken.
